December 2011 - Age UK Redditch and District

Staff at our Wythall site raised £3,191.08 for Age UK Redditch and District, part of Age UK. The total donation amounted £6,382.16 as the Group matched the funds raised.  Staff based at the site organised various fundraising activities, including a dress down day, a medley of Christmas songs sung by the Fund Accounting team, cake sale and raffles over the Christmas period.

Age UK Redditch and District is an independent charity and local partner of Age UK.  They work with and for the over 50s, their families, friends and carers in the area.  Their aim is to promote the dignity and quality of life for all older people living locally.

December 2011 - Mind

Staff from our London Group office raised £1,648 for Mind, which included a matched donation from the Group. Funds were raised through holding a charity raffle.

Mind is the leading mental health charity for England and Wales, providing information, advice and support to 250,000 people a year through their helpline, local organisations and information resources. They campaign vigorously to create a society that promotes and protects good mental health for all - a society where people with experience of mental distress are treated fairly, positively and with respect.

November 2011 - Centrepoint's 'Sleep Out' challenge

Nine members of staff from our London office braved the November weather, and slept rough in Exchange Square, London as part of Centrepoint's 'Sleep Out' challenge. The team experienced what it was like to be homeless and sleep out on the cold, noisy, London streets. It was a tough night, with little sleep, but the Phoenix team raised in excess of £6,000, which included a company donation.

October 2011 - Volunteering exercise in Woodrush High School

26 members of staff from our Wythall office swapped their day job for an opportunity to participate in a volunteering exercise at their local secondary school – Woodrush High.

Staff spent the day redecorating seven of their maths classrooms, whilst pupils enjoyed the start of their half-term break. The work was overseen by the school's caretaker, who was excited at the prospect of having some eager volunteers to help with the work.

October 2011 - Worcester Snoezelen

Staff at our Wythall site raised £1,398.55 for Worcester Snoezelen. The company agreed to match the amount raised, so in total the Group donated £2,797.10 to the cause. Funds were raised by allowing staff to dress down for the day in return for a donation, a charity raffle, lunchtime quiz and through the sale of doughnuts and samosa's on site.

Worcester Snoezelen is a small independent charity, offering people with severe learning disabilities an environment in which they can explore, through sight, hearing, smell or touch. The charity was on site during the day, offering staff the opportunity to experience some of the therapies and equipment they use.

October 2011 - Environmental Awareness Event

Staff from offices in Wythall (near Birmingham), London and Peterborough participated in our first Environmental Awareness Event in aid of the Woodland Trust.

Staff raised £713.30 by dressing down in 'green' and selling tickets for the environmental themed raffle. Phoenix matched this pound for pound, so £1,426.60 was donated to the Trust. The Wythall site was host to an array of stands over the lunchtime period, all supporting the day's focus of the 3 R's – Reduce, Re-use and Recycle. Bromsgrove and Redditch Council in partnership with Worcestershire County Council promoted their 'Love Food, Hate Waste' campaign, Ricoh UK Limited highlighted the site's new eco-friendly printing equipment, and the Woodland Trust shared materials to encourage staff to get outside, and enjoy their local woodland.

August 2011 - Wythall Community Association – Annual Carnival

Phoenix Group was pleased to support the Wythall Community Association, with preparations for their annual village carnival, and ongoing activities. £2,000 was donated by the Group. Phoenix Group employs over 600 members of staff in its Wythall office (near Birmingham), so this was the perfect opportunity to support an event at the heart of their community.

June 2011 - Give and Gain Day

16 members of staff from the Wythall office participated in the '2011 Give and Gain Day', which is the UK's only national day of employee volunteering. This initiative is managed by Business in the Community, and sponsored by Lloyds Banking Group, Hewlett Packard and Eversheds LLP. The day mobilised staff to volunteer their expertise and time to support the local community.

This project took place at Park Hill Primary School, in Birmingham. The day involved clearing overgrown borders, planting shrubs, putting in fencing and painting.

June 2011 - Motor Neurone Disease Association

Staff at our Wythall office arranged a week of activities to help raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease, which coincides with the Association's own awareness week.

As part of the week's activities, staff were invited to take part in 'The Phoenix Mile', a mile-long run around the company's head office grounds to raise money for the cause. The Company donated £10 to the Motor Neurone Disease Association for each of the 350 members of staff who entered. Patron Sir Roger Bannister, who is father to the Group's CEO kindly donated a number of signed copies of his book as prizes. Money was also raised through a raffle and quiz. May 2011 - Everyman campaign

The final of the Birmingham Offices Football League Cup, took place at Phoenix Group’s Wythall office. Both teams in the final were ‘Phoenix teams’, but Phoenix ‘A’ team were the eventual winners. The Group took this opportunity to raise money for the Everyman campaign. The campaign promotes awareness of prostate cancer and testicular cancer and funds scientific work to stamp out male cancers. Phoenix Group employees raised £650.79, which was then matched by the Group, so £1,301.58 in total was donated to the cause.

May 2011 - City of Birmingham Choir's Concert

Phoenix Group was the sole sponsor to the City of Birmingham Choir’s Carmina Burana concert which was held at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham. The choir performed alongside Birmingham Schools Symphony Orchestra and Birmingham Music Service Children’s Chorale. The Group provided funding which allowed all audience members to receive a ‘free’ programme, for which the front-page design and notes section were created by members of the orchestra. This innovative approach to supporting the arts in Birmingham highlights our commitment to this local charity and to the arts. The Group hopes to continue working with the Choir during 2011.

May 2011 - Women’s 10k Road Race in Glasgow

2011 was the 15th successive year that Ignis Asset Management was the title sponsor of the annual Women’s 10k Road Race in Glasgow. We are delighted with the continued success of the event which has gone from strength to strength over the years. The race regularly attracts over 12,000 runners and raises money for numerous charitable causes.

March 2011 - St Patrick's Day / Comic Relief

On St Patrick's Day, staff at the Wythall office helped raise money for Comic Relief. Various fundraising activities were arranged including a dress-down day, games, quiz, raffle, Irish Cake Baking competition, and one member of staff agreed to have her hair dyed green for the cause, with the highest sponsor being allowed to spray her hair! Employees in our Peterborough office gave a donation in return for coming to work in casual dress, whilst in our London office money was raised through a raffle. Phoenix Group matched the money raised by employees. Red Nose Day 2011 raised a record breaking £102 million, of which Phoenix Group and its employees donated £4,563.
