Encouraging bio-diversity from our rooftops

We have been busy bees

biodiversity

Our Data Centre, Glenogle Road building in Edinburgh houses two hives on its rooftop. The bees were introduced in 2018 in recognition of the contribution they make to the environment, protecting biodiversity. With the loss of flower meadows, irreversible climate change effects and pesticides the bee population is sadly in decline. The bees were originally sourced from Northern Italy and have been tended to by a beekeeper, who maintains the hives. In readiness for their arrival heathers were planted on the rooftop, an important source of nectar for wild bees and other pollinators.
