Phoenix Group assists with making walking accessible for all

News Image 5

Life and pension firm Phoenix Group based in Basingstoke has been working with UK charity Living Streets to improve staff wellbeing, in addition to participating in a community street walking audit identifying improvements to the local walkways.

Living Streets wants to create a walking nation, free from congested roads and pollution, encouraging individuals of any generation to enjoy the benefits of walking more. Phoenix staff volunteers joined Living Streets personnel on an hour-long walk on the streets around the office, recording recommendations on how walking could be made more accessible to all, and noting how the environment could be improved.

Living Streets is tasked with producing a report and will share with local authorities with a view to some recommendations hopefully being introduced in the coming months and years.

From a staff benefit perspective, lunchtime walks such as this provide a great opportunity for staff to boost their wellbeing, increase their daily step count, and experience the greater outdoors.

Lucy Symonds, Corporate Responsibility Manager, Phoenix Group commented: “The Group actively promotes the benefits of walking to staff. It has been great working with Living Streets and hopefully together we will be able to encourage further members of our local community to build extra steps into their day.”

Joe Irvin, Chief Executive, Living Streets commented: “Our partnership with Phoenix Group supports our aim to create a walking nation, and they are setting a great example to other businesses by promoting the many benefits that walking can bring.”
