Menopause and employment: how to enable fulfilling working lives

MP1

Andy Briggs is the UK Government’s Business Champion for the Ageing Society and Older Workers, alongside being Group CEO at Phoenix Group.

His three priority areas in his UK Government role are:

  • Spearheading work to promote the benefits of older workers and multigenerational workforces to employers across England – influencing employers both strategically and in terms of practical advice.
  • Encouraging Government policies and adaptation of ‘lifelong learning’ as necessary to enable people at all ages and in all areas of social mobility to progress continually through their working lives.
  • Developing and supporting strategic approaches to the infrastructure and societal changes needed as a consequence of increased longevity.

A key component for delivering this activity is a roundtable of employment organisations that the Minister for Employment and Andy Briggs Co-Chair.

Members of the roundtable include representatives from a range of organisations with wide reach and influence, such as: the CBI (Confederation of British Industry); CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development); the British Chamber of Commerce; the Federation of Small Businesses; the Recruitment and Employment Confederation; UK Hospitality; Institute of Directors, Make UK; and Business in the Community.

Members of the roundtable collaborated to distil the key recommendations set out in this report. Its purpose, and its recommendations, are to bring about comprehensive change around menopause transition awareness as well as support in the key areas of: Government policy, employer practice, wider societal and financial support recommendations.

The roundtable members meet regularly to discuss a wide variety of employment issues with further reports to be published in 2022.
